The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) on Tuesday defused a hand grenade recovered by the police on the railway tracks near Iranian consulate before it could have caused any disaster.

According to police sources, after Monday’s suicide attack on the Iranian Consulate which killed three paramilitary soldiers and wounded ten others, a new squad, comprising 29 Frontier Corps (FC) personnel, was deployed in the area on the early Tuesday morning.

Officials said a patrolling police party found the bomb and the bomb disposal squad was called to check and diffuse it.

The BDS during a search operation found a hand grenade placed on the railway tracks near the Iranian Consulate in the University Town area. The squad diffused the grenade and started a search operation.

Reports suggest the hand grenade recovered from the railway track might actually have been thrown by the suicide bomber who blew himself a day prior (Monday) in front of the consulate.

On Monday, as per police sources, a teenager suicide bomber had walked up to the check-post outside the Iranian mission, after parking his car nearby, and then blown himself up after being stopped by security men.

Taliban-affiliated with Mast Gul group had claimed the responsibility of the Monday attack.
