At least 30 extremists were killed and several others reported injured and their hideouts destroyed when jets of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) bombarded suspected hidey-holes of militants in North (NWA) and South Waziristan Agencies (SWA) on in the wee hours of Tuesday.

The attacks focused on the towns of Miranshah and Darpa Khel and surrounding areas.

Air strikes were also carried out at militant hideouts in Paray Ghul area of SWA and Shiktoi area situated at the centre of NWA and SWA where a number of safe havens were destroyed.

“At least 17 were killed in the SWA side of the border, while 13 were killed in NWA,” witnesses said on condition of anonymity.

The latest air strikes mainly took place in the Shawal valley and Dattakhel areas of NWA where militant training facilities and compounds are said to be located.

However, it could not be verified how many civilians might have been killed or wounded in the attacks.

The peace talks between the TTP and the government, announced on January 29, stalled last week due to a recent surge in insurgent attacks and a claim by a Taliban faction that it had killed 23 kidnapped FC soldiers.

Meanwhile, relocation by a large number of locals continued with many migrating to Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Kohat, Lakki Marwat and Peshawar.

No temporary accommodation arrangements on the government or personal level have been made to facilitate the migrants yet.
