TTP committee awaits contact by government, Prof. Ibrahim

PESHAWAR-

Member of the intermediary committee formed by Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Professor Ibrahim Khan on Monday said that the government committee has not made contact with them, a private news channel reported.

Khan, who is also a leader of Jamaat-i-Islami (JI), said that the peace talks are currently facing an impasse while the TTP committee awaits a contact being made from the government committee.

He said that the deadlock cannot be overcome without dialogue between the two sides sitting together, adding that the government negotiators are reluctant in carrying out dialogue.
He added that a military operation was not the solution to the ongoing issue as it would lead to displacement of hundreds of thousands of people.

Also on Monday, TTP contact person Maulana Yusuf Shah TTP side is consulting over the present scenario and their committee will be reviewing the ongoing situation.

The deadlock, that has entered a second week, followed after a TTP group in Mohmand Agency claimed responsibility for killing 23 Frontier Corps (FC) soldiers. The FC men were kept as captives after being abducted from Shongrai checkpost in the tribal region in year 2010.

TTP spokeman Shahidullah Shahid has termed the killings a revenge for the security forces killing TTP activists.
