LHC suspends notice for cancellation of Umar Akmal’s driving licence
Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday suspended a notice by Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) for the cancellation of cricketer Umar Akmal’s driving licence.
Justice Shehzada Mazhar passed the orders on a petition filed by Akmal challenging the notice for cancellation of his driving licence. The court also sought reply from the Lahore CTO by March 13.
Earlier, petitioner’s counsel said that the Lahore CTO through a show-cause notice had raised concerns on Akmal’s driving and asked him to file reply within seven days otherwise his licence would be cancelled. He pointed out that the notice was issued after a tussle between Umar and a traffic warden and the matter was still pending before the court. He contended that the notice by CTO was discriminatory therefore, it should be set aside. He also pleaded the court to suspend the operation of notice.
The court after hearing the arguments suspended the notice till March 13 and sought reply from the CTO Lahore.
