For that’s what the audience craves for

As if things weren’t interesting enough a new wave of entertainment is about to hit our TV screens. The rumor mill is abuzz with the news of some upcoming shows that are being developed by some of our favourite TV stars i.e., Veena Malik and Aamir Liaqat. The two have been talking about leaving everyone wanting more with their latest efforts which they feel are suited for, and extremely craved by, the Pakistani audience.

Veena’s little surprise

If the grapevine is to be believed then Veena Malik is all set to start in her very own “16 and Pregnant” reality show. The show is meant to help her get more mileage out of being famous for being famous. Some people may find it a little odd that Veena is considering a show which flaunts her as an officially angsty teenybopper, albeit one where she is to have her own kid. The idea reportedly struck Veena when she realised that she can finally live out her dream to star in the show since she is now married. She’s always tried to think out of the eastern box and do things that can help smash ratings in an upward direction. The lovely lady is expected to take council from Mathira for her project who has a pretty good idea of how to work on projects where kids are involved.

Veena was earlier upset because of Meera’s leaked sex video because she beat her to the punch. Friends close to the starlet spoke about her struggle right after the video was released as Veena had always looked up to Paris Hilton and was interested in releasing her own. With having first tried and tested the eastern touch formula Veena now wants to continue pushing a more western vibe. While she garnered many fans because of her stint on Hero TV’s Ramazan special, the prima donna wanted to do a show like Hilton’s “The Simple Life” but fell short when she realised people wouldn’t let her invade different villages in Pakistan for any of the shooting. While the news still isn’t official, we’re waiting for our TV screens to light up with Veena’s charm as an expectant teen.

Aamir Liaqat: the New Sultan

Whispers in entertainment circles are all pointing to the same thing: Aamir Liaqat has his eyes set on various Turkish actresses and models that he’s interested in collaborating with. Sahir Lodhi may have used a British model in one of his ventures but Liaqat knows what the Pakistani audiences’ hearts want. Turkish dramas are the in thing and Liaqat will be creating his own brand of Turkish delights for the idiot box. His show is going to revolve around making religion a “hot” and “in” thing again. It is going to be a step up from his “tukka lagao musalmano” glory days. Sources close to Liaqat suggest that he was mesmerised by the Sultan’s harem on “Mera Sultan” and wants to recreate something similar where he will be able to talk about Islam (but with a harem of beautiful Turkish women).

The Bhutto Brigade

Stealing a feather (and half of their name) from the Beygairat Brigade’s cap the Bhutto kids are also rumored to be looking into their own reality TV show called the “Bhutto Brigade” where they expose the outrageous and hypocritical aspects of politics in Pakistan. Friends close to the kids have talked about their growing infatuation with the Kardashian sisters and hope to remodel their show “Keeping up with the Kardashians” into a new political satire show which focuses exclusively on how awesome the siblings are in comparison to their competition. Bakhtawar is expected to open each episode with a unique rap which will wow the audience. Bilawal is also rumored to be looking to use the show to promote his upcoming hip and happening perfume and clothing line. It’s no secret that he’s interested in all things style and fashion as was obvious with the fashion show at the Sindh Fest which displayed extremely western designs, albeit in traditional Sindhi prints.

Now some people have already starting cribbing about the content failing to meet a given standard on TV and some of the same people are not too happy about these lovely rumours. They have expressed their disgust at the rumours flying around and called out these new shows, and older ones, as being distasteful. But if we look at things objectively then these shows are the future for Pakistani channels. The audience wants what it wants and it’s the responsibility of the stars to deliver. These stars are working day and night to bring in higher TRPs, and higher TRPs they shall get by any means necessary. It’s time that instead of needlessly criticising we applaud people like these for the sacrifices they make for primetime television. And to these shows I say the more the merrier. Happy TV watching folks!
