Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has launched Kids Traffic Awareness Programme giving status of ambassadors of the force to school children, authorising them to issue verbal warning over violation of traffic rules by road users.
AIG (Operations) Sultan Azam Temuri on Saturday formally inaugurated this programme at Police Line Headquarters which was attended by the children of various schools in twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
The purpose of this programme is to provide awareness about traffic rules among the school children and educate them about safe road environment in the city. The children were imparted education about traffic laws in Theme Park of police line headquarters and also acquainted with road sense by providing them opportunity to drive bicycles on roads of park.
The children successfully competing test were appointed as ambassadors of ITP and they were given authority to issue verbal warning to those violating traffic rules on road. The children can warn those involved in rash driving, violating traffic signals, using mobile phones and not fastening seat belts during drive, parking vehicles on zebra crossing and no parking areas and those motorcyclists driving bikes without helmets.
This campaign will help to inculcate better traffic sense among children so that they can become responsible citizens in future and set good examples for their families and the people in their surroundings.
On the occasion, AIG (Operations) also distributed cards of kids traffic awareness program among school children issued by SSP (Traffic).
