Admission into non formal basic education schools in Rawalpindi begins

Admissions in 170 school centres set up under Non Formal Basic Education School Project (NFBESP) in Rawalpindi have started.

The Punjab government has launched the project to ensure 100 percent school enrolment of five-year-old children.

Admissions into these centres of non formal education are being provided to the children found wandering aimlessly in the streets, working at kilns, factories’ workshops, hotels, picking rags and living in slums.

Overall, 6,800 children will be given admission into these school centres. Education and books will be provided to them free. As many as 170 lady teachers from mohallas and streets have been recruited for these schools. These teachers are being paid monthly honorarium.

Shafqat Rehman has been appointed focal person in respect of these school centres in Rawalpindi.

Committees comprising prayer leaders and numberdars have been constituted to monitor performance of these schools. The admission process of children will be finalised within two weeks.
