The newly-appointed Federal Directorate of Education Director General Prof Mahmood Akhter Malik Thursday vowed to revamp, enhance efficiency and restore lost prestige of the department tasked to provide quality education to the masses.
He said the FDE was dedicated to teaching and learning, academic excellence, developing a sense of purpose and high achievement with a vision for tomorrow, and said he was determined to accomplish these objectives.
Prof Malik said that over the years, poor performance, conspiracies and leg-pulling have marred the working of the Federal Directorate of Education. He rubbished the allegations levelled by the outgoing Director General Dr Shahnaz A Riaz as “baseless and malicious” and said his appointment was on merit and according to rules.
He said he was given the new responsibility by the Secretary Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) after relieving Dr Shahnaz of her post who was directed to report to the CADD for further posting.
He said an enquiry conducted by Secretary Privatisation Commission Amjad Ali Khan imposed penalties of “Censure” on Dr Shahnaz and ordered recovery from her pay the “losses caused to the government” for receiving shift allowance and using official vehicle for personal use, in addition to receiving monthly monetisation allowance.
Prof Malik regretted that Dr Shahnaz while refusing to accept the orders of the CADD secretary tried to illegally occupy the office forcefully. He said a notification to this effect was issued on February 12, and she was relieved of her duties the next day and he was tasked to look after the affairs of the office of the DG FDE, as per rules. He said that his focus will now be to make the FDE more vibrant and to reach out to the teachers and students for provision of quality education.
