United States’ Agency for International Development (USAID) will be providing $36 million to Pakistan for a water filtration project, said the US Ambassador Richard Olson on Tuesday.
Speaking at an inauguration ceremony of a water filtration plant in Jacobabad, Olson said the project, due to be completed by 2015, aims to improve the drainage system in the city while facilitating the supply of clean drinking water to the citizens.
Provincial minister for works and services Hazar Khan Bijarani expressed his hope that with the help of USAID the project would improve the water supply scheme in the area.
The ambassador further said that USAID seeks to build 136 schools across the Sindh province within the next five years.
A $10 million budget has been planned for the project, he added.
