PESHAWAR-
The militant group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on Wednesday put forth its conditions for announcing a ceasefire, following killing of 23 Frontier Corps (FC) personnel.
TTP spokesperson Shahidullah Shahid demanded that the killings of TTP members should be stopped immediately.
“Our fighters are being targeted, arrested and killed in fake police encounters. The government’s negotiations team should ensure our committee that this would immediately stop,” he said.
He added that a ceasefire will be agreed upon if the government ensures TTP’s committee that its demands will be fulfilled.
An impasse was reached in peace negotiations between TTP and government after it claimed responsibility of killing the FC men in revenge of killing of its activists.
The soldiers killed had been held captives since 2010 after their abduction from Mohmand tribal region.
The government committee had announced earlier it would not engage in further talks with the TTP appointed committee until the militant group announces a ceasefire.
