LAHORE –
Justice delayed is justice denied, one such situation was witnessed on Tuesday, when the Lahore High Court ordered releasing a person arrested on murder charges ten years ago.
Justice Mazahir Ali Akbar Naqvi was heading a two-member bench to hear an appeal filed by convict, Bashir Bhatti, against his sentence.
Bashir was charged of plotting a murder of three persons. He was given death sentence by Anti-Terrorism Court in 2004.
In 2009, Bashir was exonerated by a two-member bench, however following the directives of Supreme Court the two judges were suspended, and the court could not release its detailed verdict.
The court in 2009 in its verdict had declared that Bashir could not be convicted just on the basis of suspicion.
The appeal of the convict was heard by 11 different court benches in the last ten years.
