Pakistan Tehree-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has said that the army must go ahead with the military operation if the peace talks fail altogether.
Khan said this during a private TV channel programme ‘Zaire Bahas’ hosted by prominent journalist Arif Nizami.
The PTI chairman said that Taliban were ready for peace talks within the ambit of Constitution and their demands were negotiable. He reiterated that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif should lead peace talks.
He said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif told him on September 9 before the All Parties Conference (APC) that General Kayani was not more hopeful than achieving only 40 percent success in military operation in North Waziristan.
The PTI chief said that Taliban proposed his name for their committee knowing that he could handle the US pressure against her demand for launching an operation in North Waziristan.
“People say that I am demoralising the people and the forces are living in fool’s paradise. However, I have been supporting peace talks for the last nine years as war is not a solution to violence and bloodshed in Pakistan. The three political parties – ANP, PPP and MQM – have been in the power during the last five years, and I wonder why did they not start operation against the militants?”
