Giving the due

Being a resident of DHA Lahore any news item appearing in any section of media attracts my attention. At times informative, at time positive and at times critical contents inspired me to share my honest and true feelings. A false impression prevailing around that the DHA is a habitat of the upper class has always been disturbing me and I very minutely tried to unfold this perception. Outcome of the quest, to know the reality revealed that in totality this perception is not 100% true. Instead it’s a mixture of a developing community barring few. Dwellings in any locality are the indicators of overall developing society. It will be unjustified if the concept behind establishment of DHA, its gradual development, extension, quality of life, facilities extended are not mentioned. With the basic amenities, round the corner and a well-developed infrastructure, every second person has an urge and desire to be part of this community.

Up keeping the living in DHA is certainly the result of DHA management team who are committed to live up to the needs of its residents. In the era of unrest, multi-dimensional problems, like security, maintenance/sewage, provision of affiliated facilities are the concern of every housing society. DHA Lahore, despite all these barriers stands out amongst the rest. It’s bylaws, development, regular upkeep of necessities & facilities like commercial markets, mosques, educational institutions, parks, playing grounds health facilities, club facilities, cinema, effective security system etc are certain worth mentioning facilities that we the residents are enjoying.

No doubt a room for improvement always remains and so is with DHA as well.

  1. DHA Lahore is in a mess, because roads and other infrastructure were built only for four phases and cannot cope with ever increasing number of phases and greed of those who manage this society. Corruption within DHA management is on rise especially the unit dealing with house completion certificates.

  2. A community is known from the quality of its residents. I am afraid this is where DHA has lost its grandeur. We all know it is now mostly a collection of upstarts with lots of money but that's all. Once Model Town was known for all the good things of community living. They too have suffered from similar calamity. Some say Shahi Mohala has lost its 'charm' as most 'artists' now reside in these two major residential localities.
