Nine of family shot dead in Peshawar

PESHAWAR-

Unidentified men on Wednesday killed at least nine people in an attack on a house located on the outskirts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa capital Peshawar, a private news channel reported.

According to the report, unknown gunmen stormed in to a house in Budhbher area of the city and opened indiscriminate fire on the residents and hurled hand-held grenade at them.

As a result at least nine people lost their lives.

Superintendent of police (SP rural) Peshawar Rahim Shah said the targeted family of Pir Israr were ordinary citizens and had no affiliation with any peace community.

The nine victims included four sons and three nephews of Pir Israr, while two of the nephews were said to be 16-year-olds.

According to Deputy Superintendent Police (DSP) Fazal-e-Wahid, the armed assailants entered the house of Pir Israr last night, segregated the women from the male members of the family and shot the male members dead after tying their hands and feet.

Pir Israr was the brother of Pir Zafar- a local peace committee head and member of special police force – who was killed earlier in an encounter with Bara-based militants, added DSP Wahid.

Edhi sources were quoted by the TV channel saying the dead bodies were shifted to Khyber Teaching Hospital.

Police launched a search operation in the area while residents protested against the attack and blocked Kohat Road.
