The multi-talented Farhan Akhtar surprised many with his talent when he sang some numbers in Rock On!! (2008).
His band, Farhan Live, which has never played gigs in Mumbai before, is thrilled to be doing so for the closing ceremony of the Hindustan Times Kala Ghoda Arts Festival, 2014 (KGAF).
Farhan talked about playing to a live audience, dancing in movies and why he will never be a playback singer. It’s a completely different experience from what I do in films. There is something magical and fulfilling about it. You don’t get this connect with the audience even when watching a film with them.
He said, never say never. But do I really want to dance at an awards show? No. Dancing for me has to be important to the film’s character. I love music in films; it’s one of the wonderful things about Indian movies, but there is a certain treatment of songs that doesn’t necessarily mean you have to dance. For the longest time we had that. I find it difficult to wrap my head around the idea of ‘cut to dance’. But whenever dancing is needed in a film, I will rehearse and get it right.
