The Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association, Sindh chapter, has announced a strike in all the Sindh’s universities on February 17.
Addressing a press conference on Sunday, FAPUASA Sindh’s General Secretary Prof Ahsan Memon said the academic activities would remain suspended in all of the universities while in the other provinces a one-hour token boycott would be observed.
Prof Memon said their protest was a reaction to the Sindh government’s delaying tactics which was avoiding to amend the Sindh Universities Laws (Amendment) Act, 2013, to give autonomy to the institutions of higher learning.
Sindh University Teachers Association’s (SUTA) President Dr Azhar Ali Shah and Secretary Dr Arfana Mallah, Mehran University Teachers Association’s (MUTA) General Secretary Prof Arshad Memon and Sindh Agriculture University Teachers Association’s President Prof Liaquat Jamali were also present at the press conference.
