Glassgow-Lahore cycle rally organised to raise funds

Glasgow’s 13-member special delegation and Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) organised ‘Glasgow-Lahore Cycle Rally’ on Sunday.

The rally was arranged to raise funds for twin programmes between York-hill, RoyalHospital for Sick Children’s Glasgow and Children Hospital/Institute of Child Health Lahore.

A special delegation, led by MSP Hanzala Malik, arrived to launch the special initiative aimed at making join efforts to establish safer communities in Pakistan to tackle youth diseases by creating awareness among the general public.

The rally, comprising of over 100 cyclists including Punjab DG Rescue Dr Rizwan Naseer, MSP Hanzala Malik, Children Hospital Dean Dr Masood Sadiq and other notables started from Bhatta Chowk and culminated at Kalma Chowk after passing from Askari 10, Sherpao Bridge, Canal and FC College.

Later, an awareness walk was also initiated by the participants from Kalma Chowk to ChildrenHospital where MSP Hanzala Malik talking to journalists said that the initiative would create awareness among departments and the general public as well.

Punjab DG Rescue Dr Rizwan Naseer said the community participation in the rally was a symbol of ownership by the community.

“Around 40 percent diseases among children are water borne diseases which can be reduced by provision of clean and boiled water to children,” he said.
