Lal Masjid cleric and disgruntled member of Taliban’s committee for peace talks, Maulana Abdul Aziz stands firm on his stance that Constitution of Pakistan was “un-Islamic” and challenged the clerics for debate over the issue.

In a statement on Sunday, Abdul Aziz said that terming the 1973 Constitution as Islamic was the “biggest lie of the century”.

He said that the Constitution was drafted by Englishmen and its Articles were based on their pattern.

Aziz said the clerics who consider the Constitution as Islamic can hold debate with him over the issue.

The Lal Masjid cleric, who was nominated by the Taliban for representation in the committee to hold peace talks, separated himself from the talks demanding imposition of Shariah in the country before holding dialogues.

So far the government and Taliban have made nine peace agreements but not a single contains demand of imposing Shariah in the country.
