Federal Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali on Friday claimed that 98 percent of electricity was stolen in Member National Assembly Faryal Talpur’s constituency in Naudero.
Addressing a press conference, he said that most electricity was stolen in Sukkur division and that the recovery of debt was less than 40 percent.
He said that the federal government would have to shut down all the feeders if electricity theft is not curbed.
The minister alleged that 98 percent of electricity used in her constituency was obtained by theft. “What do you call obtaining electricity through hooks if not cruelty?” he asked. No one would be given free electricity, he insisted.
He also said that crackdown against electricity thieves is also akin to the war on terror as the country could not progress until electricity theft was curbed.
