Former right-arm fast bowler Waqar Younis has submitted an application for the vacant position of Pakistan Cricket Team’s head coach.

Younis said that including former captain Wasim Akram in the coach selection committee is a great idea.

He stated that there will be no compromise on fitness and discipline, adding that his help can also be taken for the national team’s training.

Today (Thursday) is the last day to submit applications to coach the team.

On January 21, Pakistan cricket authorities began the hunt for a new head coach for the national team, a day after Dav Whatmore’s two-year tenure ended with a series-levelling victory over Sri Lanka.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said in a statement it “has invited applications for the positions of head coach, batting coach and fielding coach for the national team”.

Former stars Wasim Akram, Javed Miandad and Intikhab Alam are members of the PCB-appointed committee tasked with finding the coaches. The final decision will come before the Asia Cup in Bangladesh.

“In my personal opinion, the national team should have coaching staff from Pakistan,” Wasim had said earlier.

Former cricketers Intikhab Alam and Javed Miandad as well as the PCB Chief Operating Officer Subhan Ahmed are also members in the committee.

  1. Pakistan needs a batting coach, a bowling coach and a fielding coach, all reporting to the team manager. There is no need for a head coach.

  2. The story of Punjab still needs an unbiased researcher who has the ability to wash the grime spread by opinionated intellectuals, court historians, old masters and resistance giants.
