The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday rejected the federal government’s report about Zahir Gondal being in the custody of Punjabi Taliban in Miranshah.
The court observed, “We are showing leniency at present and we expect we will not need to take stern action. In the intelligence report presented earlier it was said he is held by Muhammad Farooq al Qaeda group in the training centre of Punjabi Taliban at Miranshah. While in a new report of the police it is said that the lawyer is in the custody of ISI. The AG should talk to the authorities concerned and ensure recovery of this lawyer.”
A two-member bench, presided over by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, took up for hearing lawyers kidnapping and violence case.
The CJP said, “No case is registered against Zahir Gondal. If there is any case against him then the court be informed in this respect. Disappearance of the lawyers this way is matter of grave concern. There is too much contradiction between the reports of police and intelligence agencies which have been filed so far. Police will have to take action and present progress report.”
The court was told that Gondal was in the custody of ISI.
The court expressed surprise over it remarking that earlier it was told that he was in the custody of some group of Al-Qaeda in Miranshah and this new report is strange. AG should look into the matter personally and present report.
The court rejected the report filed by police in Muhammad Khan murder case and ordered the Rawalpindi RPO to appear on February 13.
