Karachi Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has said that a team has been constituted to check substandard CNG kits in school vans, public transport and other commercial vehicles.
The team includes representatives of CNG associations, Hydro Carbon department, Traffic police, RTA officers and Special Judicial Magistrates.
The commissioner, presiding over a meeting at his office, said that the team will conduct a crackdown in all the six districts of the metropolis and strict action against the violators will be taken, according to a statement issued here on Wednesday.
The meeting was attended by Abdul Sami Khan of Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA), Shabbir Suleman of CNG dealers association, DIG Traffic Karachi, General Manager HDIP, Additional Commissioner Karachi-I Muhammad Aslam Khoso, Director Media Commissioner Karachi Muhammad Shabih Siddiqui, Secretary RTA Gazanfar Ali Qadri and other senior officers.
The matters related to the use of substandard CNG kits, conversion of CNG cylinder and installation of CNG cylinder at improper places in vehicles were also discussed.
It was decided in the meeting that cars which have both LPG and CNG kits installed will not be filled. CNG associations will strictly follow the amendments made by provincial and Federal governments.
It was also decided that LPG rickshaws which would be using bottles of petrol as well, a strict action will be taken against them.
The traffic police will issue the special directives to Fitness certificate section about CNG kits. Hydro Carbon will send the report in 15 days to the Commissioner Karachi, the OGRA and the DIG traffic.
