Kashmir Day rallies were held across the city with various religious organizations renewing their pledge to support the cause of Kashmir.
The residents of the metropolis joined hands with Jamatud Dawa (JUD) and Jamat-e-Islami (JI) which held rallies at The Mall.
Protestors chanted slogans against the Indian atrocities and vowed to not rest till the freedom of the disputed land.
Kashmir, a picturesque Himalayan region, is divided between India and Pakistan but claimed in full by both.
About a dozen rebel groups have been fighting Indian forces since 1989 either for Kashmir’s independence or for its merger with Pakistan.
The fighting in Kashmir has killed tens of thousands of people, mostly civilians. It has been steadily declining in this decade but India says militants inflicted a heavy toll on their security forces in 2013.
Pakistan and Kashmiris stage protest rallies on February 5 every year to express solidarity with the independence movement.
A THUMKA FOR KASHMIRIS:
Like other organizations, political parties and activists of human rights organizations, eunuchs also held rally to express solidarity with Kashmiri brethren.
Addressing the participants of rally held in Garhi Shahu area of Lahore on Wednesday, on the occasion of Kashmir Solidarity Day, secretary general of eunuchs organization “Sathi Foundation” Laila said that Kashmir dispute couldn’t be resolved through condemnation resolution and holding protests rallies.
Laila condemned the Indian forces for violation of basic human rights and acts of barbarism in occupied Kashmir. “India can suppress the voice of Kashmiris for self determination by using force,” Laila added.
Laila said that India doesn’t want to talk over the issue of resolving Kashmir dispute and now use of force against Indian stubbornness was the only option left behind.
