KARACHI-

A unanimous accord was agreed upon by the chambers of commerce and industries from across the country for stressing the government to implement their proposals in budget in order to boost revenues and export receipts.

The agreement was reached upon at the pre-budget conference titled “Stop IMF loans, go for economic revival,” hosted by the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Tuesday.

Around 18 chambers of commerce and industry approved the resolution for budget 2014-15 that the policies should now be framed by the business community, as the bureaucracy is no more reliant.

The leaders of all the chambers criticised the role of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and agreed that the present system only promotes tax evasion.

They suggested that statutory regulatory order (SRO) culture should be eliminated immediately, as it only resulted in corruption and discrimination.

The chambers recommended that direct taxation on agriculture income should be brought in the tax net and the federal government should issue clear-cut policy instead of putting on the provincial governments.

The role of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) was also slammed by the business leaders for their dormant role in resolving the problems of trade and industry.
