The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has presented documentary proof in Accountability Court (AC) against former prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf in the rental power case.

Judge Muhammad Bashir of the Islamabad AC heard the case Tuesday. Four witnesses appeared before the court from the NAB side whose statements were recorded including the director of Nandi Pur power project.

The NAB presented documentary proof in the court. The hearing of the case was adjourned till February 26. The defence counsel, on next hearing, will cross-question the witness who has recorded statements against Raja Pervez Ashraf.

Talking to reporters after the hearing of the case, Farooq H Naik, counsel for former prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf, has said his client has done nothing wrong and there is no documentary proof against him in the rental power case.

Raja Pervez Ashraf has earlier said corruption charges of Rs 22 billion leveled against him were baseless and without investigation. He had not reaped any financial gains, he added.

He went on to say this is only case where there is no complainant. His political rivals have raised this issue for the sake of personal ego only, he stated.

“It is bad luck of our society that baseless allegations are leveled against the politicians. What is our fault? what offence we have committed?” he questioned.

The Supreme Court had said in clear terms that it should be checked that these people had not harvested any financial benefit, he said adding the case has now been presented before the AC and it is mentioned in its charges that no one has gained any personal benefit nor any corruption has been committed.

“My character assassination and media trial should be stopped now,” he said.
