The Lahore High Court Tuesday dismissed a petition seeking appointment of judges in high courts through written test and interview.
The single bench comprising Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan heard the matter. The court had reserved the verdict which was announced on Tuesday. The petition was filed by the Lawyers Foundation through its President Feroz Shah Gilani submitting that appointment of judges in high courts and the Supreme Court without written or psychology tests and interview was violation of merit.
Eligible lawyers are disappointed when posts for judges in higher judiciary are not advertised and filled by a selection process, he added. It deprives many competent candidates from taking examination, he said.
He requested the court to issue directions to quarters concerned to fill vacant posts of judges in higher judiciary after written test and interview.
However, federal and provincial law officers submitted that the method for appointment of judges had constitutional shelter and appointments were being made according to it.
