Missing Persons’ Case: No crime without police is possible, observes SC

“Possibility of any crime without police stands ruled out,” said Justice Azmat Saeed during the hearing of of Attiq ur Rehman missing person case in the Supreme Court on Tuesday.
The three-member court bench was headed by Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani.
Justice Saeed remarked that that the police has deliberately been neglecting the case.
“If the police rightfully perform their duty, missing persons can be recovered within hours,” he said.
During the hearding, Additional Attorney General (AAG) Tariq Khokhar told the bench that Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Military Intelligenc (MI) have claimed no involvement in the kidnapping of Attiq ur Rehman during preliminary investigations.
He added that December 13’s ruling of missing persons commission had stated prima fasciae that the case was of enforced disappearance.
Khokhar informed the court that a comprehensive investigation was underway by the defence ministry while intelligence agencies have asked the commission on missing persons and joint investigation team to allow more time for the probe.
AAG Khokhar prayed the court to grant a two-week time extension for completion of the investigations.
The court granted a two-week time frame and adjourned the hearing till February 18.
