Human error has emerged to be the major cause of cancer across the globe said the experts on Tuesday.

Addressing a public awareness session organised by Baqai Institute of Oncology the oncologist urged people in general to understand its causes and focus more on prevention than treatment or medication.

Senior oncologist of the country, Prof Manzoor Hussain Zaidi with specific reference to Pakistan said there was urgent need to adopt a comprehensive approach to tackle the health threat instead of issuing figures and statistics about it.

“The approach has to be equally focussed on awareness, prevention and treatment,” he said.

Prof Zaidi said breast and ovarian cancers are increasingly registered among Pakistani women and there is need to raise massive awareness among them about associated risks and measures to prevent coupled with timely referral to doctors.

He said youth and population falling in productive years of their lives have emerged to be another most susceptible section to develop lung, throat, and mouth cancers.

“This is mainly due to growing tendency of tobacco consumption, be it sheesha, cigarettes or oral consumption of tobacco along with pan, challia gutka etc,” said the oncologist.
