Govt working to prepare skilled workers

Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Pir Syed Sadaruddin Shah Rashidi informed the upper House on Tuesday that the government was working to prepare and send more and more skilled workers to abroad so that they could contribute to the economy of the country.

Resonding to a question, the minister said last year more than 622,000 persons were sent abroad through the ministry while efforts were being done to further improve the figures.

He said during the year 2011-12 demand for 827,258 Pakistani workers was received from Middle Eastern countries through overseas employment promoters while a total of 1077499 Pakistani workers proceeded to these countries.

Rashidi said the training institutions and vocational authorities, functioning under the administrative control of federal and provincial governments were responsible to provide skills and training to Pakistani workers/manpower.

Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis & Human Resource Development was collaborating with Overseas Employment Promoters (OEPs) and NGOs to initiate technical training skills institution, he added.

The minister further said a summary to form the new governing body of Workers Welfare Fund was moved to the Prime Minister for formal approval and that the 18 member governing body had representation from all the provinces.
