Defense of Pakistan Council (DPC) head Samiul Haq on Monday said that conducive ties between Pakistan and India were impossible, sans resolving Kashmir and water issues.
Addressing a joint press conference with other DPC luminaries like Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, Ahmad Ludiahanvi Lt Gen (r) Hameed Gul, Ejazul Haq, Ajmal Khan, Dr Kamal, Nazeer Janjua and Abdullah Gul, he declared to celebrate February 5 as Kashmir solidarity day, during which rallies would be taken out to show solidarity with the Kashmiris.
The DPC leaders castigated rulers for romancing an adversary, and being desperate for facilitating India as the MFN (Most Favored Nation) status; wherein India should have been subjected to criticism and pressure to desist from such offensives as water wars and brutalities against the Kashmiris.
The issue of dialogue with Taliban was also debated, whence it was disclosed that the governmental committee formed for dialogue with Taliban had accorded a warmest welcome to participation, coordination of DPC; while the Tuesday meeting of the committee would be deliberating over the future strategy.
They resolved that they wanted to avoid any kind of armed confrontation between warring parties, as military operations had always complicated the situation more. “The entire country is afire with internal strife and the issue no longer pertains between “Maulvi” and “Mr”, but had rather become an issue for survival for Pakistan,” they warned.
“The role of intermediaries is quite risky and dangerous, but for the sake of Pakistan we would be willing to tread the perilous journey,” they resolved.
