LAHORE –
Pakistan Cricket Team’s right-handed batsman and part-time spinner Umar Akmal was detained by the police after a heated exchange of words with a traffic warden near Firdous Market in Lahore on Saturday.
The Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Suhail Chaudhry said that Akmal broke a traffic signal and was rude to the warden, adding that a First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged against him under section 153 and 686.
Akmal reportedly tried to drive away when the warden Zeeshan stopped him to ask for his papers.
Assistant Superindent of Police (ASP) Zahid Nawaz while talking to media said that three traffic wardens tried to stop him
The warden claimed that Akmal swore at him also threatened him.
Akmal refutes these claims, stating that he was rushing to a wedding when the traffic warden stopped him. He also claimed that the warden slapped him, injuring part of his face.
The cricketer was taken to a police station after the incident and he is currently detained there. His father and brother arrived at the station shortly after his detention.
Akmal said that he will register a case against the warden.
However, the CTO said that Akmal violated the traffic signal and threatened the warden of dare consequences when he stopped him.
Chaudhry said that a case will be registered against the cricketer for obstructing the functioning of the state.
Truth is that wardens are very much character-less and one even told me that he challans people whenever he feels like, notwithstanding any traffic violations.
But still its violence !!!
Follow the law, initiate case, but why to humiliate an individual who represent Pakistan at international level.
Rules are made for 2 follow not 2 broke
Hero should behave like a Hero.
He should have:
1) Not left home without proper documents.
2) Not crossed Red Signal.
3) Instead of arguing, accept the mistake, and Challan.
Money does not teach manners and etiquettes, it comes with education.

He should be treated like every one else. Having said that traffic laws in Lahore are a big joke. Every single person on the road breaking the laws of traffic every minute.
