Four suspected militants were killed and 50 others were rounded up in a targeted raid in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Swabi district.

The operation, being carried out by police and security personnel, was still in progress.

Parmoli Police Station House Officer Haji Khan said that the raid was launched after security personnel received a tip off that militants had occupied the ShakoliPrimary School in Swabi’s Khanpur village.

When police and security personnel raided the school, the militants returned fire and an hour-long gun battle continued between the two sides.

A huge quantity of explosive material and other arms and ammunition were also recovered during the raid, officials confirmed.

Swabi is the hometown of the deputy ameer of the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Khalid Haqqani and attacks in the district have increased since he took charge.
