The teachers working in municipal education institutions in Rawalpindi and other districts of Punjab have been waiting for promotion for last 25 years.

The teachers, expressing grave concerns, said that they are about to retire at the same pay scale at which they were recruited 25 years ago.

Moreover, recruitment has not been made on vacant posts in the girls and boys municipal schools of the province since 1990, leading to severe shortage of teaching staff. According to an estimate, about 40 percent seats of teachers are laying vacant in the schools.

Punjab Municipal Teachers Union Senior Vice President Maulana Abdul Rasheed and Secretary Malik Ziaullah Awan have said that teachers of normal cadre were promoted but municipal cadre teachers have not been promoted so far.

They threatened to take out protest rallies and hold strike if the municipal schools teachers were not promoted soon.
