Ramzan elected as PBC vice chairman

Supreme Court lawyer Muhammad Ramzan Chaudhry was elected as new vice chairman of Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) on Friday by obtaining a total of 11 votes against 8 votes of his opponent.

A meeting of PBC for the election of vice chairman was held Friday and a total 19 members out of 22 casted their vote.

Attorney General for Pakistan Salman Aslam Butt who is also ex-officio chairman of the council acted as election commissioner for the said election.

Chaudhry who also remained judge of the Islamabad High Court till 2009 contested the election as a candidate of Asma Jehangir Group and supported by the outgoing vice chairman Syed Qalbe Hassan.

However, Zia Awan who took part in the election as a candidate of Hamid Khan Group obtained a total 8 votes against 11 votes of Chaudhry.

Three members who could not reach Islamabad are Ayaz Zahoor from Quetta and Saeed Akhtar and Haji Said Rehman from KPK.
