ISLAMABAD-
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday morning headed the first meeting of the four-member committee constituted for facilitating talks with Taliban insurgents.
During the meeting, the PM gave guidelines to the committee and defined its jurisdiction as they discussed the outline and strategies to carry out dialogue with the militants.
The committee members include PM’s advisor on National Affairs Irfan Siddique, former ambassador and expert on Afghanistan affairs Rustam Shah Mohmand, former ISI official Major (r) Amir Shah and veteran journalist Rahimullah Yusufzai.
Interior Minister Chaudary Nisar Ali Khan will be assisting the committee.
The meeting also involved a discussion over the mandate of the committee and the rules for peace talks.
On Wednesday, PM Sharif had announced to hold talks with the insurgents on a single precondition of them abandoning terrorist attacks while peace talks are underway.
Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan had welcomed the offer of negotiations by the Premier.
