Opposition flays performance of KP govt

The opposition in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Wednesday slammed the performance of the PTI government, holding it responsible for the worsening law and order situation and bad governance in the province.
Addressing a press conference at Assembly Chamber, Opposition Leader in the KP Assembly Sardar Mehtab Abbasi said that the combined opposition has decided to convene a session of the KP Assembly to deliberate upon what he termed wrongdoings of the KP government. The PML-N leader was flanked by ANP lawmaker Sardar Hussain Babak, Qaumi Watan Party lawmaker Sikandar Sherpao, JUI-F legislator Asmatullah and PPP lawmaker Nighat Orakzai.
He said the KP government disappointed people and failed to implement its agenda of change and contrary to its tall claim.
Asked if opposition parties mulling to bring no confidence motion against the government, Abbasi said the opposition parties would use its democratic rights if PTI failed to deliver and remove the grievance of people.
He claimed that the opposition parties gave free hand to the PTI to deliver but it failed to come up with peoples’ expectations. The numerical strength of the ruling and opposition benches in the KP Assembly was not big, adding, “We will not use undemocratic means to overthrow the provincial government.”
The opposition leader maintained that honeymoon period of the KP government was over and now the opposition parties would keep a vigil on its performance and would not let it waste the developmental resources. He said the opposition would not become hurdle if the government performed its duties with honesty and responsibility.
He suggested that the Council of Common Interest was the best forum to address issues of the province and if the KP government has any problem it could take up the same to the CCI.
Abbasi said the PTI was not fair in judicious distribution of the developmental resources. He said the opposition had equal rights over the resources and no injustice would be allowed with people in this regard. However, he said, the opposition would play an effective and responsible role and would not destabilise the KP government. He said the opposition had supported the PTI in legislative process and never created hurdle in way in this regard.
Terming the KP local bodies election bill dubious, the PML-N leader expressed optimism that the KP government would reconsider it and would make it acceptable.
He said the PML-N was a big political party and emerged second largest force in the general elections in KP and was capable to take the country out of existing challenges.
