Indonesia: 14 go missing as landslide crushes five to death

JAKARTA-

At least five people were killed and another 14 went missing in a landslide, triggered by days of rain, which buried a village on Indonesia’s main island of Java on Tuesday.
According to local disaster agency official Putra Anugerah the landslide occurred at 1:30 am in the mountainous Jombang district in eastern Java.
“We pulled five bodies from the rubble this morning and are still searching for the other 14. Sixty people have also been displaced,” Anugerah told a foreign news agency.
Five homes were completely crushed by the landslide and members of the rescue agency, army personnel and community members were helping search for the missing, officials said.
Widespread floods and landslides have resulted from a spell of rain in various regions of the country in recent weeks.
