The counsel for owners of CNG stations has said while arguing in CNG stations closure case in Islamabad High Court (IHC) that CNG sector is being targeted.
Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui took up the case for hearing Tuesday. Qamar Afzal counsel for owners of CNG stations said it was decided to supply CNG for 3 days a week following the consultation between the government and SNGPL Committee. Later Prime Minister (PM) Mian Nawaz Sharif had announced to supply gas to industrial sector as well due to which CNG sector is heading towards disaster.
He further argued “ our motive is not to do injustice with any one. But the gas supply should continue to all sectors uninterrupted on the principle of equality. Parliament had enacted laws seriously following the approval of 18th amendment but these have not been implemented so far. Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has no authority to deal with gas matters and it can give guidelines only. Any decision taken by it will be termed illegal.
He pleaded that Regulatory Authority should work as per law. CNG sector is being subjected to injustice. There is no such person among Board of Directors who has not at least ten factories. PM himself had announced that gas would be supplied to industrial sector on priority basis.
He further argued law ministry should go beyond 1997 laws while Supreme Court has enunciated their position in its decision. Only one sector is being overlooked in preferential list. As to why the quota is not being allocated for CNG sector the way it is being set for other sectors, he questioned.
Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui adjourned the hearing of the case till today.
