Seven cases in Punjab, 61 from FATA in 2013

Eighty Seven cases of polio were reported from different parts of the country in 2013 but only seven cases from Punjab, said EPI Additional Director Dr Nazir Hussain on Sunday.

He said that nine cases were reported from Sindh, 10 from Khyber Pukhtoonkhwa, 61 from FATA while no case was reported from Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan.

He said that in the current year government had made a plan to administer polio drops with a new strategy in which chiefs of tribal areas would be motivated to administer polio drops themselves instead of vaccination teams so that their reservation could be removed.

He said that the EPI department had also established anti-polio centres in Punjab to monitor the situation.
