Negotiations only way to curb terrorism: Fazl

Fazlur Rehman, chief of his own faction of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, on Sunday supported resolution of terrorism issue through negotiations and said that it is only possible if the two sides declare a ceasefire.
“Declaration of ceasefire is essential,” the clerics said while addressing a rally in Peshawar. According to the party, the rally was arranged to bring people’s problems into the government’s notice. The rally was also addressed by JUI-F federal minister Akram Khan Durrani.
Instead of focusing on economic issues such as price hike, unemployment, poverty and terrorism, the JUI-F chief and other leaders flayed the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders. They said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had failed on every front.
They said, “The government does not exist in the province. All of its matters are disposed of by non-governmental organisations in Islamabad.”
Supporting dialogue between the government and the Taliban terrorists, Fazl said, “Our party had established a jirga some two years back for the purpose.”
He suggested the federal government to let the jirga to enter into dialogue with the terrorists. He was sure. The JUI-F chief said that he was unhappy with deadly attacks against security forces and destruction of schools as it was not only causing irreparable losses, but also damaging image of the country at international level. He said that armed forces should be given a chance to fulfill its responsibilities to bring peace.
Levelling serious allegations on the PTI government, the cleric said, “The PTI government had exposed its efficiency within months.” He added that NGOs, both foreign and local, were tackling all affairs pertaining to KP. His party was determined to bringing an end to PTI government as it had failed in fulfilling its responsibilities, he concluded.
