Former army chief General (r) Mirza Aslam Beg on Sunday said that those pressing the prime minister for operation against Taliban want to dislodge the government to create Egypt and Syria-like situation.
In an interview, Beg said that instead of operation, dialogue would be a better option in the larger interest of the country. He said the army has all the power and capability to crush terrorism but it would have to consider whether the government would be able to control the situation after the operation.
The former COAS said, “Our enemy is at the back of Maulvi Fazlullah and providing him arms and finances.” He said Fazlullah was in Afghanistan and being supported by Afghan government and others. He said the government should take the bitter pill of dialogue process with Taliban and should not take any step in haste.
