Minister stresses inter-department coordination for ‘better results’, says Vision 2025 depends on performance of Grade 19 officers

Federal Minister for Planning Development and Reforms Ahsan Iqbal has said coordination among federal and provincial departments was vital for better results.

Addressing a certificate distribution ceremony among officers who completed the 14th Senior Management Course and 99th National Management Course at National School of Public Policy (NSPP) on Saturday, the minister said the Vision 2025 depended on the performance of Grade 19 officers.

“The performance of public sector departments is not improving, rather it is declining as performance has largely become an individual’s choice,” he added.

He said the performance of almost every department had been declining for the last 20-25 years as if the country was run without planning such challenges would appear. He said that now citizens were empowered due to fast growing technology and had become an accountability department; the media was vibrant and shaping public opinion and the judiciary was also active.

“Under the circumstances we have to find how to coexist with these changes,” he added.

Iqbal said that grey areas should be minimised in civil services to improve its working.

“In 10 years, water will be the biggest problem if reservoirs were not built. A reform agenda should be evolved to improve the working of public sector departments,” he added.

The minister congratulated the officers and said the courses would help them in completing future assignments.
