Unidentified assailants shot dead Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Karachi district president Mujibur Rahman in a drive-by on Friday.

Police said Mujeebur Rehman’s vehicle was targeted by unknown armed motorcyclists at Banaras Chowk near Pashtun market. He was shifted to Jinnah hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

Reports said the PPP office-bearer had took part in last year’s general elections from PS-96 constituency. The killing came when wheel-jam and shutter-down strike is being observed in the city against Mufti Usman’s killing and massacre in Balochistan’s Mastung area.

Meanwhile, police and Rangers continued their operation, arresting over 40 suspected criminals, including members of banned outfits.
