Authorities in Karachi have decided not to advertise polio campaign in the city in light of the fresh lethal attacks on health workers, a private news channel reported on Friday.
The verdict was taken in emergency meeting summoned for discussing the security of polio vaccination campaign.
It was also decided in the meeting that the teams will not work without security personnel.
A recent attack on a polio team in Karachi’s Qayummabad neighbourhood left two female polio workers dead.
Following the incident, All Pakistan Lady Health Workers Employees Association had demanded the campaign teams’ security should be ensured by providing clearance letters from security agencies that a certain area is safe to carry out the vaccination drive. The association also demanded that the workers injured in attacks across the country should be given monetary compensation for treatment.
