The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday disposed of a contempt notice against Federal Petroleum Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi after he tendered unconditional apology.
A single-member bench, comprising Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui, issued the directive while hearing a contempt plea against the minister, filed by Javed Akbar, a counsel for CNG station owners.
During the hearing, Abbasi appeared before the court and apprised Justice Siddiqui that he had unintentionally used the word ‘unfortunate’ during a recent press conference.
Abbasi said it was a ‘slip of tongue’ and he always held the judiciary in highest respect.
The minister had been summoned for his alleged contemptuous remarks during a press conference in January regarding the court’s ruling on reopening of CNG stations.
During the January 11 press conference, Abbasi had said that there had been a serious gas crisis in the country for three weeks because of cold weather and higher demand of gas and an IHC decision to restore supply to CNG stations.
