Medical board completes Musharraf’s health assessment report

The medical board formed to review former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf’s health condition completed its assessment report on Thursday.

Musharraf has been skipping court hearings citing security and health issues and the special court on January 16 ordered the formation of a medical board to review his health condition.

The sealed report will be submitted to the court tomorrow and the special bench will issue appropriate order in the light of the information.

Musharraf was accused of treason under Article 6 for suspending, subverting and abrogating the Constitution, imposing an emergency in the country in November 2007 and detaining judges of the superior courts. The 70-year-old had fallen ill and taken to the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC) in Rawalpindi on January 2 as he was being transported under heavy guard to the court.

Lawyers representing the former military ruler have been requesting for Musharraf’s treatment abroad and the special court will decide with the help of the medical report if he should be allowed to leave the country or not.
