Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif chaired a high-level meeting to discuss the national security at the Prime Minister House in Islamabad on Thursday.
Sources said Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif, Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) Major General Amir Riaz, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar and Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) General Zahirul Islam were present at the meeting.
They said important decisions are also likely to be taken to improve overall national security.
A preliminary report regarding terrorist incidents in the country was presented in the meeting which also focused on making intelligence work more effective to curb the menace of terrorism.
According to a spokesman of the PM House, issues of national importance came under discussion during the meeting, including the recent wave of terrorist attacks in the country.
Sources said DGMO was present at the meeting, adding that he apprised the premier of ongoing operations against militants.
The meeting also considered possible action against terrorists whereas Prime Minister Nawaz was briefed about the forces behind the recent incidents of terrorism.
Earlier today, COAS Raheel Sharif called on the premier separately at the Prime Minister House.
Sources said the army chief and PM discussed matters pertaining to the national security at the PM House.
Army Chief held detailed discussion with the Prime Minister over the issue of dialogue with Taliban and other issues of the national security.
This one-to-one meeting is considered crucial especially in the backdrop of recent increase in the incidents of terrorism including attacks on the armed forces.
Sources said that prime minister and army chief in their meeting would finalize a strategy to deal with terrorists.
