At least seven Levies personnel lost their lives while ten others were injured during a failed militant attempt to kidnap a Spanish tourist in Koshak area of Balochistan on Wednesday, a private news channel reported.
Militants tried to abduct a Spanish tourist travelling on a bicycle from Dalbandin area of Balochistan but the Levies personnel accompanying the Spaniard resisted the ambush, resulting in crossfire between them and the militants.
The exchange of fire left six Levies men dead while ten others were injured, including the Spanish tourist whose condition was reported to be critical.
The clash also left one militant dead.
The bodies and the injured were shifted to a nearby hospital in Mastung.
In response to the attack, the local administration sought additional deployment of Frontier Corps (FC) and Anti Terrorist Force (ATF) personnel in the area.
The event follows an explosion that targeted a bus carrying Shia pilgrims travelling through Mastung on Tuesday. 24 people were killed in the blast.
