Sami-ul-Haq backs out of Taliban talks on military action

Chief of Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam- Samiulhaq (JUI-S ) Maulana Sami-ul- Haq on Wednesday announced that he is distancing himself from the proposed talks with the insurgent Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Due to his perceived influence over Taliban leaders, Haq had offered to mediate the dialogue between the government and TTP.
But now Haq has announced to back out of his offer because of the armed forces action in tribal areas a day earlier.

In response to recent attacks by TTP over security personnel in Bannu and Rawalpindi, Pakistan military aircrafts bombed militant hideouts in North Waziristan on Monday night, killing atleast 40 terrorists including key TTP commanders.

In his announcement, he said that he initiated background talks with Taliban leaders from January 1 sent a message to the prime minister in this regard but did not receive a response from the government.
