HEC chief appointment: efforts to defame candidates disclosed

It has been disclosed that social, electronic and print media would be utilised to defame well-reputed internationally recognised personalities to create fuss over appointment of Higher Education Commission (HEC) chairman.

According to sources, services rendered by these personalities and their careers would also be defamed to effect appointment of chairman HEC and to benefit favorites.

Moreover, Sources added that this campaign is being backed by an important HEC personality who has established a formal team for this purpose.

Social circles and expected candidates appealed the chief ‘Search Committee’ and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to take immediate notice of the situation so that all candidates should get equal chances for the transparent appointment of HEC chief.

It is significant to mention that Islamabad High Court (IHC), on January 6, directed the federal government to appoint permanent/regular Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) till 12th February 2014 as prescribed under HEC Act in a transparent way. The single bench led by Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui remarked that office of chairman HEC is one of the important positions.

Renowned educationist, Founder Chairman of Higher Education Commission (HEC) and President Pakistan Academy of Sciences Dr. Atta-ur-Rehman filed a writ petition on 30th December 2013  in the IHC for the appointment of permanent and regular chairperson of HEC as per HEC Act without any further delay through a transparent and merit based mechanism.
